Nvidia, AMD can resume AI chip exports to China
It seems President Trump’s meeting with Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, which included receiving a gold-and-glass statue from him at the White House last Wednesday, was not his most significant interaction with a top US exec that day.
Yesterday, the Financial Times and the New York Times reported that POTUS also met with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who offered to give the US 15% of revenue from selling AI chips to China in exchange for…the export licenses required to sell said chips to China.
Greed, greed will end us all as China AI does what AI does.

New Study Suggests Using AI Made Doctors Less Skilled at Spotting Cancer
Health practitioners, companies, and others have for years hailed the potential benefits of AI in medicine, from improving medical imaging to outperforming doctors at diagnostic assessments. The transformative technology has even been predicted by AI enthusiasts to one day help find a “cure to cancer.”
But a new study has found that doctors who regularly used AI actually became less skilled within months.
What a surprise, over-reliance on something that takes away most challenge makes the professionals worse at their jobs?

Nvidia AI chips worth $1bn smuggled to China after Trump export controls
At least $1bn worth of Nvidia’s advanced artificial intelligence processors were shipped to China in the three months after Donald Trump tightened chip export controls, exposing the limits of Washington’s efforts to restrain Beijing’s high-tech ambitions.
A Financial Times analysis of dozens of sales contracts, company filings and multiple people with direct knowledge of the deals reveals that Nvidia’s B200 has become the most sought-after — and widely available — chip in a rampant Chinese black market for American semiconductors.

Nvidia says it will restart sales of a key AI chip to China, in a reversal of US restrictions
American chipmaking giant Nvidia (NVDA) says it plans to resume sales to China of an artificial intelligence chip that’s become part of a global race pitting the world’s biggest economies against each other.
The company’s announcement on Monday comes after Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with President Donald Trump at the White House last week. Huang has argued that restricting sales of American technology to China could put the US position as a global AI leader at risk — and the company had also said the restrictions were causing it to miss out on billions of dollars in lost revenue.

Anthropic wins a major fair use victory for AI — but it’s still in trouble for stealing books
A federal judge has sided with Anthropic in an AI copyright case, ruling that training — and only training — its AI models on legally purchased books without authors’ permission is fair use. It’s a first-of-its-kind ruling in favor of the AI industry, but it’s importantly limited specifically to physical books Anthropic purchased and digitized.
Judge William Alsup of the Northern District of California also says in his decision that the company must face a separate trial for pirating “millions” of books from the internet. The decision also does not address whether the outputs of an AI model infringe copyrights, which is at issue in other related cases.

You sound like ChatGPT
Join any Zoom call, walk into any lecture hall, or watch any YouTube video, and listen carefully. Past the content and inside the linguistic patterns, you’ll find the creeping uniformity of AI voice. Words like “prowess” and “tapestry,” which are favored by ChatGPT, are creeping into our vocabulary, while words like “bolster,” “unearth,” and “nuance,” words less favored by ChatGPT, have declined in use. Researchers are already documenting shifts in the way we speak and communicate as a result of ChatGPT — and they see this linguistic influence accelerating into something much larger.
In the 18 months after ChatGPT was released, speakers used words like “meticulous,” “delve,” “realm,” and “adept” up to 51 percent more frequently than in the three years prior, according to researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, who analyzed close to 280,000 YouTube videos from academic channels.

The Meta AI App Lets You ‘Discover’ People’s Bizarrely Personal Chats
“What counties [sic] do younger women like older white men,” a public message from a user on Meta’s AI platform says. “I need details, I’m 66 and single. I’m from Iowa and open to moving to a new country if I can find a younger woman.” The chatbot responded enthusiastically: “You’re looking for a fresh start and love in a new place. That’s exciting!” before suggesting “Mediterranean countries like Spain or Italy, or even countries in Eastern Europe.”
This is just one of many seemingly personal conversations that can be publicly viewed on Meta AI, a chatbot platform that doubles as a social feed and launched in April. Within the Meta AI app, a “discover” tab shows a timeline of other people’s interactions with the chatbot; a short scroll down on the Meta AI website is an extensive collage. While some of the highlighted queries and answers are innocuous—trip itineraries, recipe advice—others reveal locations, telephone numbers, and other sensitive information, all tied to user names and profile photos.

How Software Engineers Actually Use AI
Code created AI. That much is obvious. Less obvious is the extent to which AI is now, in a snake-eats-tail way, creating code. We kept hearing conflicting accounts. This programmer used AI every day; that programmer wouldn’t touch the stuff. This company paid for AI services; that company banned them. So which is it? Are chatbots liberating human programmers—or programming them right out of their jobs? To find out, we blasted a survey to every software engineer and developer in our orbit, from casual dabblers to career vets. The results amazed and surprised us, capturing an industry at fundamental odds with itself. And did we then upload that data to ChatGPT, just to see what it might make of things? Yes. Yes we did.
It surprises no one, however, the stats are quite shocking. Practically the minute ChatGPT came online, white-collar workers began to fret about bots taking their jobs. And now, the call may be coming from inside the house, as artificial intelligence appears to be nailing not only shopping lists and corny limericks but also software code, in many cases performing on par with human programmers.

One company boasted that its robot looked almost human, with feminine features and the ability to wink and smile. Some firms tested their robots for weeks before the race. Beijing officials have described the event as more akin to motor racing, given the need for engineering and navigation teams.
Oh yes, the doomsday clock ticks 1 second closer. AI and robotics, age of Ultron soon?

Jack Dorsey and Elon Musk would like to ‘delete all IP law’
Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter (now X) and Square (now Block), sparked a weekend’s worth of debate around intellectual property, patents, and copyright, with a characteristically terse post declaring, “delete all IP law.”

We now see the true nature of Elon and other bigwigs lmfao, so much for being AntiAI, now it's let's carve out as much of the marketshare as we can, fuck everyone else.
OpenAI In Talks to Buy Windsurf for About $3 Billion
OpenAI is in talks to acquire Windsurf, an artificial intelligence-assisted coding tool formerly known as Codeium, for about $3 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The deal would be OpenAI’s largest acquisition to date, and could help the company take on rising competition in the market for AI-driven coding assistants — systems capable of tasks like writing code based on natural language prompting. The terms of the deal haven’t been finalized and talks could still change or fall apart, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private.
Let's take the coder's jobs too, everyone will be very sorry in the long run.

OpenAI says Musk has run ‘unlawful campaign of harassment’ against company in lawsuit
OpenAI on Wednesday filed suit against Elon Musk, claiming the world’s richest person has “tried every tool available to harm” the artificial intelligence company.
The lawsuit, filed in a federal district court that last month blocked Musk’s attempt to stop the nonprofit from transforming into a for-profit entity, is asking for punitive damages from Musk’s actions and an injunction to stop him from interfering further in its operations.
I really wonder why Elon musk would have an interest in messing with OpenAI lmao, not like he owns AI companies that would benefit A LOT from destroying OPENAI, and for Sam, why do you think powerful people hate you when you have such unrestricted power? Is it really a question?
Shopify CEO tells teams to consider using AI before growing headcount
In a recent memo to employees, Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke made a bold policy change: teams must demonstrate why AI can’t perform a job before they’re permitted to ask for more headcount and resources.

Is Chinese AI dominance here?
機器人代理隨時為您服務 is Mandarin for “the robot-agents are at your service.” Luckily, English will suffice for meeting the buzzy new Chinese AI assistant Manus that went viral earlier this month, prompting some to proclaim it the next DeepSeek-level challenge to Silicon Valley.
Developed by a subsidiary of the China-based startup Butterfly Effect, Manus is billed as the first truly autonomous AI agent.
As Dean W. Ball stated: The most sophisticated computer using ai now comes from a Chinese startup, full stop. Scary, also good bye personal assistants soon lmfao, byebye jobs.

The artificial intelligence company saw 400 million weekly active users, up 33% in less than three months, OpenAI’s chief operating officer, Brad Lightcap, told CNBC.
The growth came amid more competition from open source models like DeepSeek.
How is this possible that they are still growing??? What normal people are still downloading Chatgpt when they have not yet before? Worrying trend, pretty soon most people will have AI in their personal devices.

Sam wins this one. Elon showed his hand when he recognized that he missed such a huge technology revolution, he cares way too much about AI and his involvement in it.

Scale AI CEO says China has quickly caught the U.S. with the DeepSeek open-source model
The U.S. may have led China in the artificial intelligence race for the past decade, according to Alexandr Wang, CEO of Scale AI, but on Christmas Day, everything changed.
Wang, whose company provides training data to key AI players including OpenAI, Google and Meta, said Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that DeepSeek, the leading Chinese AI lab, released an “earth-shattering model” on Christmas Day, then followed it up with a powerful reasoning-focused AI model, DeepSeek-R1, which competes with OpenAI’s recently released o1 model.
This is old news but haha wow, look at that, we already at the cold war era of arms racing of technology, how is no one concerned about foreign powers getting AI that is not regulated whatsoever?
Meta's AI Profiles Are Indistinguishable From Terrible Spam That Took Over Facebook
Earlier this week, Meta executive Connor Hayes told the Financial Times that the company is going to roll out AI character profiles on Instagram and Facebook that “exist on our platforms, kind of in the same way that accounts do … they’ll have bios and profile pictures and be able to generate and share content powered by AI on the platform.”
Sorry for the delay, some personal things I needed to take care of. For this AI story, it does not surprise me at all at what meta is doing, gross as usual.
