AI system resorts to blackmail if told it will be removed
Artificial intelligence (AI) firm Anthropic says testing of its new system revealed it is sometimes willing to pursue "extremely harmful actions" such as attempting to blackmail engineers who say they will remove it.
The firm launched Claude Opus 4 on Thursday, saying it set "new standards for coding, advanced reasoning, and AI agents."
This is just what AI has access to currently, why is no one shitting bricks at this... Ain't anthropic supposed to be developing this ethically? #StopAIThreats #AntiAI #EthicsOverAI #NoToBlackmailAI #ResistAIOverreach #KeepHumansSafe #AIEthicsFail #ProtectPrivacy #SayNoToAI #AIAlarm
OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman gave his staff a preview Wednesday of the devices he is developing to build with the former Apple designer Jony Ive, laying out plans to ship 100 million AI “companions” that he hopes will become a part of everyday life.
They are bringing in the big guns now, John Ive from apple may suggest that this new device usher in an era similar to when smartphones came onto market.

In February, Ella Stapleton, then a senior at Northeastern University, was reviewing lecture notes from her organizational behavior class when she noticed something odd. Was that a query to ChatGPT from her professor?
Oh, how the turn tables, huh? When students uses it, no one can stop it, but when everyone abuses it to do their jobs, all of sudden it is a problem? AI can see you now: “Therapy/companionship” is the top use case for generative AI, “rated according to perceived usefulness and scale of impact,” a recent analysis of Reddit posts by the Harvard Business Review found. Users of AI therapy report turning to bots for counseling because of their 24/7 accessibility, low cost, and inability to stare judgmentally.
Let's make the world even lonelier, something about talking to an AI shrink just makes me uncomfortable, don't you?

On Wednesday, BBC Maestro — a similar service to Masterclass — launched a new writing course taught by the best-selling novelist of all time. There’s a catch: the author, genre-defining mystery writer Agatha Christie, died 50 years ago, and was thus unavailable to participate.
Instead, BBC Maestro used an actress and artificial intelligence to recreate Christie, drawing from the author’s own novels, interviews, and letters for the course material. The creators describe the effort as a “world-first,” and the “Agatha Christie On Writing” masterclass is available now.
Black mirror alert, black mirror alert, at point does the essence of being human is just gone?

Code created AI. That much is obvious. Less obvious is the extent to which AI is now, in a snake-eats-tail way, creating code. We kept hearing conflicting accounts. This programmer used AI every day; that programmer wouldn’t touch the stuff. This company paid for AI services; that company banned them. So which is it? Are chatbots liberating human programmers—or programming them right out of their jobs? To find out, we blasted a survey to every software engineer and developer in our orbit, from casual dabblers to career vets. The results amazed and surprised us, capturing an industry at fundamental odds with itself. And did we then upload that data to ChatGPT, just to see what it might make of things? Yes. Yes we did.
It surprises no one, however, the stats are quite shocking. Practically the minute ChatGPT came online, white-collar workers began to fret about bots taking their jobs. And now, the call may be coming from inside the house, as artificial intelligence appears to be nailing not only shopping lists and corny limericks but also software code, in many cases performing on par with human programmers.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said Wednesday that China is “not behind” in artificial intelligence, and that Huawei is “one of the most formidable technology companies in the world.”
Speaking to reporters at a tech conference in Washington, D.C., Huang said China may be “right behind” the U.S. for now, but it’s a narrow gap.
After deepseek, honestly, how the world has not done more to stop China from developing sophisticated AI is beyond me, I warned you all about this.
After integrating Meta AI into WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, Meta is rolling out a stand-alone AI app. Unveiled at Meta’s LlamaCon event on Tuesday, this app allows users to access Meta AI in an app, similar to the ChatGPT app and other AI assistant apps.
OpenAI is also planning on adding social features to ChatGPT. The AI bot that started this whole race now lags behind Meta AI’s monthly active users, but boasts about 6x more daily interactions, according to recent Google estimates.
Sounds to me that this space is so lucrative that major tech companies will copy each other to get ahead, making progress even faster and the lack of morals even more likely. #AntiAI #ResistAI #NoToSurveillanceAI #BigTechOverreach #EthicsBeforeAI #HumanNotMachine #StopAIDomination #MetaMadness #AIIsNotInevitable #ProtectHumanity
Across Instagram, Facebook META and WhatsApp, Meta Platforms is racing to popularize a new class of AI-powered digital companions that Mark Zuckerberg believes will be the future of social media.
Inside Meta, however, staffers across multiple departments have raised concerns that the company’s rush to popularize these bots may have crossed ethical lines, including by quietly endowing AI personas with the capacity for fantasy sex, according to people who worked on them. The staffers also warned that the company wasn’t protecting underage users.
Oh whattt, Meta the notoriously scummy tech company might be implementing whatever it takes to win the AI race? No one saw this coming...

OpenAI, Perplexity, and Yahoo want to buy Google Chrome
Google might be forced to sell its Chrome browser, and while it’s hard to imagine anyone else running the ship, there’s plenty of interest from Google’s competition in OpenAI, Perplexity, and Yahoo.
Amid the ongoing antitrust lawsuit against Google, new details have revealed that there are three big names willing to buy Chrome if Google is indeed forced to sell off the browser.
Remember when Google was a world TECH GIANT, now OpenAI can afford buying a big portion of its business? What happens if the purchase goes through..

On Sunday, 21-year-old Chungin “Roy” Lee announced he’s raised $5.3 million in seed funding from Abstract Ventures and Susa Ventures for his startup, Cluely, that offers an AI tool to “cheat on everything.”
The startup was born after Lee posted in a viral X thread that he was suspended by Columbia University after he and his co-founder developed a tool to cheat on job interviews for software engineers.
Let's not pretend this doesn't happen already, at what point is this skill check a necessity just to be "normal"? #CluelyAI #CheatOnEverything #AIethics #InterviewCheating #TechCrunch #RoyLee #AcademicIntegrity #AIDebate #StartupControversy #BlackMirrorTech
Is Chinese AI dominance here?
Twenty-one humanoid robots joined thousands of runners at the Yizhuang half-marathon in Beijing on Saturday, the first time these machines have raced alongside humans over a 21km course.
The robots from Chinese manufacturers such as DroidVP and Noetix Robotics came in all shapes and sizes, some shorter than 1.2m, others as tall as 1.8m. One company boasted that its robot looked almost human, with feminine features and the ability to wink and smile. Some firms tested their robots for weeks before the race. Beijing officials have described the event as more akin to motor racing, given the need for engineering and navigation teams.
Oh yes, the doomsday clock ticks 1 second closer. AI and robotics, age of Ultron soon?
Jack Dorsey, co-founder of Twitter (now X) and Square (now Block), sparked a weekend’s worth of debate around intellectual property, patents, and copyright, with a characteristically terse post declaring, “delete all IP law.”
X’s current owner, Elon Musk, quickly replied, “I agree.”
We now see the true nature of Elon and other bigwigs lmfao, so much for being AntiAI, now it's let's carve out as much of the marketshare as we can, fuck everyone else.
OpenAI is in talks to acquire Windsurf, an artificial intelligence-assisted coding tool formerly known as Codeium, for about $3 billion, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The deal would be OpenAI’s largest acquisition to date, and could help the company take on rising competition in the market for AI-driven coding assistants — systems capable of tasks like writing code based on natural language prompting. The terms of the deal haven’t been finalized and talks could still change or fall apart, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private.
Let's take the coder's jobs too, everyone will be very sorry in the long run.
OpenAI on Wednesday filed suit against Elon Musk, claiming the world’s richest person has “tried every tool available to harm” the artificial intelligence company.
The lawsuit, filed in a federal district court that last month blocked Musk’s attempt to stop the nonprofit from transforming into a for-profit entity, is asking for punitive damages from Musk’s actions and an injunction to stop him from interfering further in its operations.
I really wonder why Elon musk would have an interest in messing with OpenAI lmao, not like he owns AI companies that would benefit A LOT from destroying OPENAI, and for Sam, why do you think powerful people hate you when you have such unrestricted power? Is it really a question?
In a recent memo to employees, Shopify CEO Tobi Lütke made a bold policy change: teams must demonstrate why AI can’t perform a job before they’re permitted to ask for more headcount and resources.
Who is surprised?
Hey, twin, a renewed wave of AI concerns is roiling the fashion world. H&M has been working with models and agencies to create “digital twins” that are indistinguishable from their human counterparts and might soon appear in online marketing campaigns, the Business of Fashion reported last week.
Again, do we not see the issue with the usage of technology in this FASHION? At first it is consentual, then every model NEEDS to sign over their likeness, don't like where this is going.
Elon Musk says xAI has acquired X in deal that values social media site at $33 billion
Elon Musk said on Friday that his startup xAI has merged with X, his social network, in an all-stock transaction that values the artificial intelligence company at $80 billion and the social media company at $33 billion.
Thank you Elon, you piece of shit for suspending my X account lmao. So now you are going to lean all in into AI hm?
OpenAI’s viral Studio Ghibli moment highlights AI copyright concerns
It’s only been a day since ChatGPT’s new AI image generator went live, and social media feeds are already flooded with AI-generated memes in the style of Studio Ghibli, the cult-favorite Japanese animation studio behind blockbuster films such as “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Spirited Away.”
Let's just ignore the creations of literally every single person in the world and just steal it for AI training, yay!
AI-driven weather prediction breakthrough reported
A single researcher with a desktop computer will be able to deliver accurate weather forecasts using a new AI weather prediction approach that is tens of times faster and uses thousands of times less computing power than conventional systems.
It always starts a a neccessary technological advancement, until it is ingraned in the very fabric of our society.

機器人代理隨時為您服務 is Mandarin for “the robot-agents are at your service.” Luckily, English will suffice for meeting the buzzy new Chinese AI assistant Manus that went viral earlier this month, prompting some to proclaim it the next DeepSeek-level challenge to Silicon Valley.
Developed by a subsidiary of the China-based startup Butterfly Effect, Manus is billed as the first truly autonomous AI agent.
As Dean W. Ball stated: The most sophisticated computer using ai now comes from a Chinese startup, full stop. Scary, also good bye personal assistants soon lmfao, byebye jobs.

Anthropic closes in on $3.5 billion funding round as investor interest soars
Anthropic is in talks to raise a $3.5 billion funding round, significantly more than the amount previously expected, CNBC has confirmed.
The round would roughly triple the artificial intelligence startup’s valuation to $61.5 billion, according to two sources familiar with the deal, who asked not to be named because the details aren’t public. Lightspeed Venture Partners is leading the funding, with participation from General Catalyst and others, the sources said.
Anthropic has been awfully quiet as its valuation grows...
Apple will spend more than $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years
Plans include a new factory in Texas, doubling the U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund, a manufacturing academy, and accelerated investments in AI and silicon engineering
What do you get when you mix a company with slowing growth and a war chest FULL of money? Apple finally entering the AI space vertically integrated is worrying as that was the last MAG 7, AI is permanent.
Microsoft, others introduce breakthroughs in quantum computing
Just two years removed from the AI explosion, are we on the verge of another computing revolution?
Microsoft’s new Majorana 1 chip, announced Feb. 19, could provide the jumping off point for a quantum leap. The chip utilizes Majorana particles—particles that are cooled to exist in a state of having no charge—through its topological superconductor, a world-first technological breakthrough that could accelerate the quantum computing timeline.
Um, when you mix game changing technologies with another, disaster awaits... Quantum AI that can hack into anything and compute even faster, then what...
OpenAI tops 400 million users despite DeepSeek’s emergence
The artificial intelligence company saw 400 million weekly active users, up 33% in less than three months, OpenAI’s chief operating officer, Brad Lightcap, told CNBC.
The growth came amid more competition from open source models like DeepSeek.
How is this possible that they are still growing??? What normal people are still downloading Chatgpt when they have not yet before? Worrying trend, pretty soon most people will have AI in their personal devices.
Musk Says xAI’s Grok 3 Chatbot Will Be Released Monday
Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup xAI will release its Grok 3 chatbot on Monday, with the billionaire describing it as the “smartest AI on Earth.”
The product will go live with a demonstration at 8 p.m. Pacific time, Musk said in a post on X.
lol, Elon making his bid for OpenAI ever so much more desperate.
OpenAI’s Altman Says Musk ‘Probably Just Trying to Slow Us Down’
(Bloomberg) -- OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman rebuffed Elon Musk’s $97.4 billion offer to take control of the artificial-intelligence startup for the second time in less than a day, accusing the world’s richest man of making the bid just to gain a competitive advantage.
Sam wins this one. Elon showed his hand when he recognized that he missed such a huge technology revolution, he cares way too much about AI and his involvement in it.
A consortium of investors led by Elon Musk is offering $97.4 billion to buy the nonprofit that controls OpenAI, raising the stakes in his battle with Sam Altman over the company behind ChatGPT.
Musk’s lawyer, Marc Toberoff, said he submitted a bid for all the nonprofit’s assets to OpenAI’s board of directors Monday.
lol, Mr. Musk, so you do want control of OpenAI afterall, unfortunately, you are too far gone and made Sam too powerful, there's nothing to halt the mastermind of OpenAI...
The geopolitics of artificial intelligence will be in focus at a major summit in France where world leaders, executives and experts will hammer out pledges on guiding the development of the rapidly advancing technology.
You like how no one cared about this event? They just played charades while the real masterminds carry out their own agenda for AI in the long term. We are going to be screwed.
OpenAI, the artificial-intelligence company behind ChatGPT, is expected to air its first TV commercial during Sunday’s Super Bowl, according to people familiar with the matter.
Founded in 2015, the OpenAI brand took off in late 2022 when it launched its wildly popular chatbot, ChatGPT. While Open AI has become one of the best known companies in the AI space, it achieved that feat with little help from paid advertising.
Isn't it funny how we all let this happen, how OpenAI became a world renowned company that has now ingrained itself in every aspect of society? It's not even just OpenAI, THERE WERE A LOT OF AI COMPANIES that can afford an 8 million ad slot, the future is here...
The U.S. may have led China in the artificial intelligence race for the past decade, according to Alexandr Wang, CEO of Scale AI, but on Christmas Day, everything changed.
Wang, whose company provides training data to key AI players including OpenAI, Google and Meta, said Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, that DeepSeek, the leading Chinese AI lab, released an “earth-shattering model” on Christmas Day, then followed it up with a powerful reasoning-focused AI model, DeepSeek-R1, which competes with OpenAI’s recently released o1 model.
This is old news but haha wow, look at that, we already at the cold war era of arms racing of technology, how is no one concerned about foreign powers getting AI that is not regulated whatsoever?
Earlier this week, Meta executive Connor Hayes told the Financial Times that the company is going to roll out AI character profiles on Instagram and Facebook that “exist on our platforms, kind of in the same way that accounts do … they’ll have bios and profile pictures and be able to generate and share content powered by AI on the platform.”
Sorry for the delay, some personal things I needed to take care of. For this AI story, it does not surprise me at all at what meta is doing, gross as usual.
