Final Post On AI for 2023

What a Year for AI.

I hope in 2024 more people stop to see how bad AI can become.

I tried my best but did not get much traction, I hope 2024 brings us more awakening.

Yours truly, C. K.

Rite Aid is in trouble after its use of AI to stop shoplifting falsely flagged large numbers of women and people of color

Rite Aid Corp. has been banned from using facial-recognition technology driven by artificial intelligence to stop shoplifting after federal regulators determined it had falsely flagged a disproportionate number of women and people of color.

In a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, the pharmacy chain has agreed not to use the technology, which relied on AI to identify people it believed had previously shoplifted from its stores, for the next five years.

Wow, this shocked me that regulation is actually being enforced in regards to AI technology, could it be that people actually care that AI can't identify them on a whim and track them? I wonder what it's like in China, HAHAH, this is only the beginning, this story suggests that it's not AI that's the problem, it's the fact it's not good enough YET.

New investigations detail concerns over Israel’s use of AI in choosing targets

Militaries all over the world are working quickly to enhance their AI capabilities, and the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) arsenal is making visible the destruction that can result from weaponizing artificial intelligence. The IDF’s tool, first used in Israel’s 11-day war against Hamas in 2021, is an AI-based system that greatly increases Israel’s targeting capacity by rapidly generating airstrike suggestions in Gaza.

Why is nobody talking about this... AI IS BEING USED NOW IN A REAL WAR, AFFECTING VERY REAL PEOPLE. Matter of time until this escalates out of control.

Warning of ‘risk to our survival,’ pope calls for global treaty on AI

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis on Thursday called for an international treaty to ensure artificial intelligence is developed and used ethically, arguing that the risks of technology lacking human values of compassion, mercy, morality and forgiveness are too great.

Maybe the pope is still jaded due to the AI Balenciaga lol, all things considered, this is a nice step as we need more public figures to call for AI regulation.

Axel Springer, OpenAI strike "real-time news" deal for ChatGPT

ChatGPT parent OpenAI has struck a deal with Axel Springer, parent to a slew of German and U.S. media outlets, to “help provide people with new ways to access quality, real-time news content through our AI tools,” OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap announced Wednesday.

This legitimizes AI further and now allows AI tools real-time access to the internet news? That's another safety guardrail off, I mean it eventually was going to get here anyway but this does not amuse me one bit.

U.S. political ad market projected to reach record $16 billion in 2024

Artificial intelligence is becoming a much bigger part of political advertising in the U.S., prompting concerns from regulators about deception and disclosures.

I have 0 doubts that some part of that $16B will spill into AI developing misinformation to be spread during political season. Grab your popcorn as the US federal election will be running full force starting very soon.

UK Competition Regulator To Look Into Microsoft, OpenAI Partnership

In light of the recent leadership shuffle at OpenAI, the UK Competition and Markets Authority is looking to review whether the partnership could result in a weakening of competition in the development or use of foundational models.

Why is it that UK regulations are actually on top of things versus the US? It only makes sense that regulators take a look at microsoft, soon to be the world's most valuable company is backing the #1 AI play.

Google launches Gemini, upping the stakes in the global AI race

Google took its next leap in artificial intelligence Wednesday with the launch of project Gemini, an AI model trained to behave in human-like ways that’s likely to intensify the debate about the technology’s potential promise and perils.

The rollout will unfold in phases, with less sophisticated versions of Gemini called “Nano” and “Pro” being immediately incorporated into Google’s AI-powered chatbot Bard and its Pixel 8 Pro smartphone.

Google is a juggernaut in the AI space, this will only heat up the AI arms race to see who can dominate the world first.

KISS reveals digital avatars at farewell concert: ‘We can be forever young’

Rock and roll never dies, and neither does the band KISS.

At the conclusion of their farewell concert at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday night, the rock band debuted their new digital avatars — ones that will ensure KISS can continue to tour, long after the stars have retired.

Beyond my feelings about AI stealing artists work. So I'm going to tackle this from a different angle, does this not devalue work if AI can just replicate creative work and personalities?

Sports Illustrated Reportedly Used AI to Create Stories

Sports Illustrated may have used artificial intelligence to create articles — and even entire “authors” on its website.

According to a new report from Futurism, SI routinely uses AI to generate articles, attributes the writing of those articles to writers who don’t exist, and uses AI-generated pictures to give the fake authors a visual presence.

Ahhh, more adoption of AI by big companies without considering the ramifications, nice. When will a major slip up happen by the tech giants of the world?

OpenAI brings Sam Altman back as CEO less than a week after he was fired by board

Sam Altman will return as CEO of OpenAI, the startup tweeted early Wednesday morning. The move follows immense pressure from employees and investors on the board that ousted him less than a week ago.

Yikes, if Sam Altman= OpenAI, and he wants to grow at all costs (previous board resisted him), we should all be very scared as he just showed he can do whatever he feels like now, albeit now the whole world is watching, so I'm guessing he will lay low for a bit, but long term very bad for AI.

Sam Altman hired by Microsoft, 600 OpenAI employees threaten to quit in protest of his ouster

Sam Altman, a prominent executive behind the rise of artificial intelligence, was hired by Microsoft days after being ousted as CEO of OpenAI, eliciting a letter signed by nearly 600 employees at OpenAI calling for the resignation of the company's board and the return of Altman.

Microsoft cored OpenAI for their top talent, the needle ticked closer to doomsday as Microsoft becomes the most valuable company ever and dominates the AI space now with tailwinds to monetize AI. How does no one see the problem here?

Sam Altman ousted as OpenAI’s CEO

Sam Altman has been fired from OpenAI, Inc., the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that acts as the governing body for OpenAI, the AI startup behind ChatGPT, DALL-E 3, GPT-4 and other highly capable generative AI systems. He’ll both leave the company’s board of directors and step down as CEO.

In a post on OpenAI’s official blog, the company writes that Altman’s departure follows a “deliberative review process by the board” that concluded that Altman “wasn’t consistently candid in his communications” with other board members, “hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities.”

HOLY S***, I can't believe they did this, the greedy bastards will actually monetize OpenAI and try to rule the world now they see the goldmine they are sitting on. I may have dissed @sama in the past but he at least plays a facade in trying to protect us from AI impacts, what about the greedy capitalists behind the tech giant? I'm scared of the true reasons why they pushed him out.

Microsoft (MSFT) is debuting its first AI chip. At its Ignite conference Wednesday, the company said the chip, called the Maia 100, is the first in its planned Azure Maia AI accelerator series. In addition to the Maia 100, the tech giant also unveiled its first custom Arm-based (ARM) Azure Cobalt central processing unit for general purpose cloud computing.

Remember Nvidia going insane? Yeah, this only affirms the trajectory that Microsoft is taking with AI. Microsoft is vertically integrating AI capabilities, be very ALARMED for AI adoption.

YouTube is going to start cracking down on AI clones of musicians

YouTube will give music labels a way to take down content that ‘mimics an artist’s unique singing or rapping voice.’ Creators will also be required to label AI-generated content beginning next year.

Google agrees to invest up to $2 billion in OpenAI rival Anthropic

Google is already an investor in Anthropic, and the fresh investment would underscore a ramp-up in its efforts to better compete with Microsoft (MSFT.O), a major backer of ChatGPT creator OpenAI, as Big Tech companies race to infuse AI into their applications.

(Also: earlier this year, a Belgian man’s widow claimed that a toxic “relationship” with an AI chatbot drove him to suicide.)

Bing Is Generating Images of SpongeBob Doing 9/11

Microsoft’s Bing Image Creator, produced by one of the most brand-conscious companies in the world, is heavily filtered: images of real humans aren’t allowed, along with a long list of scenarios and themes like violence, terrorism, and hate speech. It launched in March, and since then, users have been putting it through its paces. That people have found a way to easily produce images of Kirby, Mickey Mouse or Spongebob Squarepants doing 9/11 with Microsoft’s heavily restricted tools shows that even the most well-resourced companies in the world are still struggling to navigate issues of moderation and copyrighted material around generative AI.

This brings up another point regarding such rapid adoption of these technologies, at what point does Microsoft or any of the other tech giants draw their line in the sand and stop moderating? At some point people gonna complain that they are too restrictive like the CCP.

Over the summer, Buzzfeed posted an article of photos that were generated by asking an AI platform to recreate beloved Disney characters in the style of Tim Burton. The results depicted Elsa from “Frozen” and Princess Aurora from “Sleeping Beauty” as if they were the stars of Burton’s stop-motion “Corpse Bride.” The article went viral, but not to the amusement of Burton himself.

I will just put Mr. Burton's own words here (why is it okay that AI can freely steal from Artists?):

“They had AI do my versions of Disney characters,” Burton said. “I can’t describe the feeling it gives you. It reminded me of when other cultures say, ‘Don’t take my picture because it is taking away your soul.’”

Ghostwriter Returns With an A.I. Travis Scott Song, and Industry Allies

Earlier this year, when the anonymous musical creator known as Ghostwriter released an unauthorized track that used artificial intelligence voice effects to mimic the pop superstars Drake and the Weeknd, the fallout was immediate and far-reaching.

I'll just leave the quotes from Ghostwriter himself here: “We know A.I. is going to play a role in our business. We can’t pretend to turn our back on it and try to ban it.”

“I’m not scared of A.I., but I do believe work needs to be done to make sure that things are in place so that the creative community is protected.”

AI-Generated Drake and Weeknd Song ‘Heart on My Sleeve’ Is Not Eligible for a Grammy, Recording Academy Chief Clarifies

The baffling legalities around “Heart on My Sleeve,” the song that uses AI-generated renditions of vocals by Drake and the Weeknd, continued on Friday as Recording Academy chief Harvey Mason Jr. posted a video insisting that the song is not eligible for a Grammy award, even though the New York Times reported earlier in the week that he’d said it is.

Upon initial glance, it might be easy to assume: "Ohh, this is good. AI generated music is not going to win any awards anytime soon". The devil is in the details, It's only not eligible "because it is not commercially available", what happens when it does become available commercially due to reckless AI adoption? Open the floodgates?

Pentagon Plans Vast AI Fleet to Counter China Threat

WASHINGTON—The Pentagon intends to field a vast network of AI-powered technology, drones and autonomous systems within the next two years to counter threats from China and other adversaries. Defense Department seeks an array of air-, land- and sea-based autonomous systems to keep pace with adversaries.

To me, this is a disaster waiting to happen, what happens when these Autonomous systems "glitch" (hacked or malfunction) and do irreparable harm? Can you justify this type of defense as a deterrence against China?

Despite Cheating Fears, Schools Repeal ChatGPT Bans

As students head back into school, with exposure to potentially a full year of AI tools helping students cheat, they are now actually loosening ChatGPT Bans. To me, this indicates that regulators have no idea what they are doing, just because AI has become mainstream does not mean it is now OKAY to teach kids, our future to adopt a lazy way of "learning" and bypass academia.

Reject AI, even if the mainstream agenda appears to have accepted and embraced it as part of the societal norm, would you want your kids to skip over the important part of school that challenges them and makes them productive members of society?

AI’s Dirty Little Secret: Stanford Researchers Expose Flaws in Text Detectors

In a study recently published in the journal Patterns, researchers demonstrate that computer algorithms often used to identify AI-generated text frequently falsely label articles written by non-native language speakers as being created by artificial intelligence. The researchers warn that the unreliable performance of these AI text-detection programs could adversely affect many individuals, including students and job applicants.

So now we got the only thing that can detect AI generated text going into the new school year as having selective bias to mis-label them... GREAT, do we live in a dystopia or what.

Mycologists warn of ‘life or death’ consequences as foraging guides written with A.I. chatbots crop up on Amazon

Field guides have always varied in quality. But with some of them now being written with artificial intelligence chatbots—while appearing to be authored by human experts—the possibility of readers getting deadly advice is increasing.
Why do I keep needing to highlight newlines where clearly AI infiltrated industries are pre-emptively released without proper screening? How many deaths do you need to recognize AI tools have jumped the gun??

AI sports reporter not ready for primetime

After being dragged on social media for its hilariously bad AI-generated high school football reporting, the Columbus Dispatch and its owner Gannett announced they are pausing their local AI sports writing initiative.

I have said this many times, why is everyone so willy-nilly about AI being adopted into every facet of our lives? When it's clearly not ready? Throwback to that grocery AI telling people to make poison.

OpenAI launches a ChatGPT plan for enterprise customers

Seeking to capitalize on ChatGPT’s viral success, OpenAI today announced the launch of ChatGPT Enterprise, a business-focused edition of the company’s AI-powered chatbot app.

If we needed something to confirm the legitimacy of business adoption of AI, OpenAI confirmed it for us now suggesting overwhelming demand. This is always how it starts, corporations have the capital to back up macro trends like this.

What will it take for nuclear power to meet the climate challenge?

Nuclear power is a proven technology that can be called upon to play a bigger role in decarbonization. Its ability to scale up to meet rising demand, however, is in question.

Nuclear power start-ups have only raised 6 Billion ever, while AI startups have raised 14B in first half of 2023 alone. For how transformative nuclear could be, what does that say about AI's impact on society? Gives some perspective.

Nearly 20 years after a stroke, a paralyzed woman is able to speak again—simply by thinking—thanks to A.I.

A paralyzed woman can speak again, thanks to a small panel of electrodes implanted onto her brain and a digital avatar developed by scientists in California.

It marks the first time speech and facial expressions have been captured from brain signals and communicated by an avatar—one that speaks with the patient’s own voice.

I hate to be that guy but it's a matter of time before they create AI that can simulate thoughts if they take a wrong turn, eh? I am scared.

AI Chip Leader Nvidia Does It Again, Delivers Big Beat-And-Raise Q2 Report

Artificial intelligence chipmaker Nvidia (NVDA) late Wednesday smashed Wall Street's lofty expectations for its fiscal second quarter and guided higher than views for the current period. NVDA stock jumped in extended trading.

San Francisco wants to hit the brakes on robotaxis

After a week of mishaps, San Francisco officials are looking to pause a recently-approved expansion of self-driving taxis in the city.

The $900,000 AI Job Is Here

Hollywood studios have made a new offer to striking screenwriters that includes concessions on issues such as the use of artificial intelligence and access to viewer data, Bloomberg News reported on Monday citing people familiar with the discussions.

OpenAI, Microsoft, Google and Anthropic have joined forces to start the Frontier Model Forum.

Today, Anthropic, Google, Microsoft and OpenAI are announcing the formation of the Frontier Model Forum, a new industry body focused on ensuring safe and responsible development of frontier AI models.

Corporate giants beat on earnings and plans to keep on AI expansions

China’s Economy Is Sputtering, Posing a Challenge for Global Growth

The AI gold Rush loses some shine. The rapid explosion of AI can be comparable to the people raking it in selling pickaxes and jeans to prospectors during the California Gold Rush. Chipmakers scrambles to meet the sudden demand, chipmakers like TSMC and ASML.

These two companies stocks fell recently after they made statements expressing concerns about slowing demand. Could a slowing economy in China actually be good for AI regulation and proper time for regulators to catch up to the technology?

OpenAI's Sam Altman launches Worldcoin crypto project

July 24 (Reuters) - Worldcoin, a cryptocurrency project founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, launched on Monday.

The project's core offering is its World ID, which the company describes as a "digital passport" to prove that its holder is a real human, not an AI bot. To get a World ID, a customer signs up to do an in-person iris scan using Worldcoin's 'orb', a silver ball approximately the size of a bowling ball. Once the orb's iris scan verifies the person is a real human, it creates a World ID.

Most higher-income workers report interacting with AI in their jobs, survey says

Artificial intelligence is becoming a coworker of sorts for all kinds of employees.

As breakthroughs in generative machine learning have spawned a flurry of cutting-edge AI tools, a new report finds that workers at higher levels of companies are starting to see the effects.

My question is how quickly this is becoming normalized without any questions raised, change often changes with capitalism, and AI being so ingrained into corporations indicates big changes are coming.

Bot or not? How to tell when you’re reading something written by AI

At some point this week, you may have read a sentence written by artificial intelligence and not even known it.

While schools or prestigious writing may care about plagiarism or dishonest work, I feel the AI tech actually affects deepfakes, how would you detect deepfakes that pair up a generative AI with a detective AI?

AI regulation is literally a scam

This video describes very on target on the reality behind the world politics at play here. The people with power are always 10 steps ahead and the media feeds the masses whatever they want to hear. Sam is all for regulation, but essentially lopped the lifeline off of AI startups, startups that could challenge OpenAI. Real smooth, This is who we are placing faith into regulating such dangerous tech? Not to mention AI is essentially impossible to regulate?

Last time I checked on Sam, he was launching a nuclear fission SPAC startup? How many world-changing innovations can 1 guy do? Haha.

In NYC, companies will have to prove their AI hiring software isn't sexist or racist

New York City businesses that use artificial intelligence to help find hires now have to show the process was free from sexism and racism.

One of my keypillars of being "AntiAI", I am so glad that New York started off setting a great example of positive regulation. Why would any of the other states or countries want AI to filter based on sexism or racism prejudices?

Let's hope that more states follow suit.

AI and the automation of work

ChatGPT and generative AI will change how we work, but how different is this to all the other waves of automation of the last 200 years? What does it mean for employment? Disruption? Coal consumption?

This is an interesting think piece, with quotes like: Well, indeed, and if so we might have bigger problems than middle-class employment, but is that close? You might also suggest that the idea this one magic piece of software will change everything, and override all the complexity of real people, real companies and the real economy, and can now be deployed in weeks instead of years, sounds like classic tech solutionism, but turned from utopia to dystopia.

I believe that AI builds much quicker because it's a positive feedback loop, and at some point the acceleration will catch us off guard.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE JUNE 20, 2023 AI Is a Lot of Work As the technology becomes ubiquitous, a vast tasker underclass is emerging — and not going anywhere.

This article really speaks to me on a personal level as the light is being shed upon what makes these generative AI tools and ChatGPT bots tick. Fundamentally, it is a lot of human work that goes in and trains these algorithms. I'm not going to beat a dead horse regarding how there human biases and blah blah blah.

Instead I'm going to highlight the grunt level of work that first world countries are going to offload onto third world countries to hire workers to train these models for scraps, while enjoying the benefits that these AI models bring and further fueling their capitalistic greed. AI will only widen the technological gap between first world and third world countries. Digital mercantilism as I would describe it.

How AI may affect the future of your job

Three years ago, AI leaders from MIT released a research brief that should put many workers' minds at ease. According to their assessment, the future of AI is a supportive one, not an all-out replacement of jobs currently held by human beings.

While the tone of this article suggests that AI would not be replacing humans in their jobs, I think it is a vast over-generalization of the consequences of letting AI run loose. Who the heck cares about what some MIT researchers think? The AI problem spans a lot more than just the one dimensional analysis on AI replacing jobs, where are the comprehensive reports??

Trevor Noah on the Future of Entertainment and AI - YouTube

What if every TV show could be perfectly tailored to each viewer's interests, knowledge level, and needs? Reid Hoffman and Aria Finger sit down with Trevor Noah to talk about how technology—including artificial intelligence—might influence the future of entertainment. They chat about the strengths and shortcomings of artificial intelligence, how jobs—and the way we will work—will evolve with Al, and even the nature of capitalism. Trevor responds to a speculative story, generated by GPT-4, that paints a picture of a futuristic “Al-ly Show.” Plus, he reviews some unexpected Al-generated light bulb jokes. Is GPT-4 actually funny?

This one I am just giving a shoutout to as closely examining AI has finally becoming mainstream, I appreciate the think tank that people are finally putting themselves through to examine the various sectors AI could have potential to influence.

Audiences and Artists Outaged over ‘Secret Invasion’ Opening Credits Generated By AI

Marvel’s Secret Invasion is already causing a commotion on social media, though not for reasons that the studio may have hoped.

The series, which debuted on Wednesday with just one episode, has touched a sore spot after director Ali Selim confirmed to Polygon that the opening credits were generated by artificial intelligence. Designed by Method Studios, Selim said he thought that the idea of using AI for the opening credits fit into the themes of the show.

Some of the biggest subreddits that reopened - such as r/aww, r/pics and r/gifs - have held votes resulting in the communities being dedicated to Oliver.

The underlying cause of this movement is a direct result of AI pushing corporations like Reddit to fold in response to capitalistic greed.

MEPs ready to negotiate first-ever rules for safe and transparent AI

On Wednesday, the European Parliament adopted its negotiating position on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act with 499 votes in favour, 28 against and 93 abstentions ahead of talks with EU member states on the final shape of the law. The rules would ensure that AI developed and used in Europe is fully in line with EU rights and values including human oversight, safety, privacy, transparency, non-discrimination and social and environmental wellbeing.

I'm really proud of this development but when is US going to implement something similar? No offence but Europe does not have the influenced needed to sway a global audience, especially since big tech is all in the US.

Reports of an AI drone that 'killed' its operator are pure fiction

News of an AI-controlled drone “killing” its supervisor jetted around the world this week. In a story that could be ripped from a sci-fi thriller, the hyper-motivated AI had been trained to destroy surface-to-air missiles only with approval from a human overseer – and when denied approval, it turned on its handler.

While the news was complete bogus, it does bring up some good points on why this story was so believable, say when AI is eventually adopted into the military, would this news headline be a real possibility then?

Top AI experts, CEOs issue 22-word warning against ‘risk of extinction’ from AI

op researchers, experts and CEOs (including Sam Altman of OpenAI) have issued a fresh warning about the existential threat the artificial intelligence (AI) poses to humanity.

In a 22-word statement, they said that “Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war.”

Now that is a headline for the ages. At least some people are chirping about it. Similar to climate change though, most people will brush it aside.

TikTok is testing an in-app AI chatbot called ‘Tako’

AI chatbots, like ChatGPT, are all the rage, so it’s no surprise to learn that TikTok is now testing its own AI chatbot, as well. Called “Tako,” the bot is in limited testing in select markets, where it will appear on the right-hand side of the TikTok interface, above the user’s profile and other buttons for likes, comments and bookmarks. When tapped, users can ask Tako various questions about the video using natural language queries or discover new content by asking for recommendations.

Holy shit, okay hear me out, is this just another company adopting AI for the buzzword or perhaps there's something more sinister... We all know how controversial Tiktok is, imagine the collective hivemind of users of tiktok paired with AI development, that thought is scary.

‘Verified’ Twitter accounts share fake image of ‘explosion’ near Pentagon, causing confusion

A fake image purporting to show an explosion near the Pentagon was shared by multiple verified Twitter accounts on Monday, causing confusion and leading to a brief dip in the stock market. Local officials later confirmed no such incident had occurred.

While the stock market rebounded quickly after the pictures were debunked. This brings several issues to light, one is how AI could be used negatively to potentially cause chaos at key times (even if reversible) and achieve results very very quickly due to how convincing it is. The other side of this, even if AI images are debunked, why do we need to go through these headlines? Imagine if Russia used AI to spread propaganda?

Mr. ChatGPT goes to Washington: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman testifies before Congress on AI risks

Apple’s new ‘Personal Voice’ feature can create a voice that sounds like you or a loved one in just 15 minutes

Using Personal Voice, users will be prompted to read along with a randomized set of text prompts to record 15 minutes of audio on iPhone or iPad. Using on-device machine learning, the iPhone or iPad can then create a voice that sounds like them.

Apple is marketing this as a solution for people losing their ability to speak, such as those with a recent diagnosis of ALS. To me that is a publicity stunt and tries to bypass the potential implication of this technology. How do you prevent audio data being stored in phones and then have your voice stolen from you, can you believe any audio clips anymore, public speakers be aware...

An influencer’s AI clone will be your girlfriend for $1 a minute

Called CarynAI, the chatbot is described on its website as a "virtual girlfriend." It allows Marjorie's fans to "enjoy private, personalized conversations" with an AI version of the influencer.

Imagine a future where anyone and everyone can be AI-fied, I can say that I will still be part of the generation that remembers when AI influencers weren't a thing, until when do we have celebrities that may be framed to say something they weren't suppose to say? Spotify ejects thousands of AI-made songs in purge of fake streams

Spotify has removed tens of thousands of songs made with the generative artificial intelligence service Boomy, following complaints of fraud on its streaming platform, the Financial Times reports. Boomy users can create music in seconds using descriptors or styles such as “rap beats” or “rainy nights.”

Isn't it weird that AI can do the very thing that it is designed to do? How is that anyone would complain about tools like AI doing exactly what they are meant to do? I find it ironic that bigger platforms aren't making a bigger deal about AI consider the ramifications to undermine and potentially topple them. When is it time to panic?

AI pioneer says its threat to world may be 'more urgent' than climate change

Geoffrey Hinton, widely known as one of the "godfathers of AI", recently announced he had quit Alphabet (GOOGL.O) after a decade at the firm, saying he wanted to speak out on the risks of the technology without it affecting his former employer.

I will let you digest the news headline yourself, but is this a glimpse into the future of AI? Hinton was instrumental in the development of contemporary AI systems and is quoted as saying: "It affects us all, so we all have to think about it". Could Hinton believe that the technology he helped develop is being adopted widely largely out of people's controls?

IBM plans to replace 7,800 jobs with AI over time, pauses hiring certain positions

You have to admit this headline is something to o_o at. A company like IBM can find room to replace almost 8000 employees (granted most of these positions are easily automated and back office). IBM is by marketcap only around 100B, imagine all the other Fortune 500 companies adopting this trend.

Due to the rise of tech giant stocks, the push for innovation means they either disrupt or die off, I don't see a too far away future where these tech giants adopt AI in their back end and dominate the corporate landscape with improved efficiencies and bottom line profitability, we can all imagine Google, Meta and Microsoft chat about AI, but what about Apple, Amazon, Nvidia, Tesla to name a few, I don't think they will be caught lacking in AI adoption.

Grimes invites people to use her voice in AI songs

Grimes has welcomed musicians to create new songs with her voice using Artificial Intelligence after various scandals of music being created by artists like Drake and The Weekend.

Grimes may openly have accepted musicians to create songs with her voice, but what about other artists that do not accept this outcome? Do they have a choice? Wide adoption of AI without regulation opens the playing field to anyone's imagination, I suspect we will see many more scandals plague various industries and artforms.

Snapchat making AI chatbot similar to ChatGPT available to every user

Upon first glance, this headline may make you go, so what? Big deal, snapchat is just implementing a chatbot that everyone hates, "MyAI" or whatever it is called, crashed snapchat's app store ratings or whatever, "it's trash" etc etc.

I would like to remind you that, it's important as to not miss the forest for the tree, I'm stunned by the adoption of AI by world wide companies and corporations in a reckless manner, not so much about the niche stories covering a specific chatbot. Pretty soon you will be surrounded by AI and you won't even realize when this happened.

Photographer admits prize-winning image was AI-generated

To prove his point, German artist Boris Eldagsen revealed that his award winning photograph was AI generated and won against human creators, stirring up huge controversy due to the disruption of the creative fields for photographers, musicians, and artists alike.

As the rapidly developing AI technology advances faster and faster, where and what are the check and balances for various industries? At some point, AI will be able to make works of art far "better" than any human could, filled with generated "human error" to throw unsuspecting victims off. Did you know that AI has the capabilities to make human-like mistakes?

ChatGPT falsely accuses a law professor of a SEX ATTACK against students during trip to Alaska that never happened

US criminal defense attorney, Jonathan Turley, has raised fears over the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) after being wrongly accused of unwanted sexual behavior on an Alaska trip he never went on.

This is an instance in which it is very clear and obvious that the AI was incorrect, but what about potentials of larger forces behind the scenes with ulterior motives that may take weeks, months, or years before truth can be revealed and the parties involved exonerated?

We are playing with fire by trusting that all information being provided by ChatGPT can be trusted.

Pope Francis Is the Star of A.I.-Generated Photos

This headline may  be more humorous than other news headlines.

The AI generated image quickly spread across social media due to how realistic it seems, prompting a 'generated by AI' watermark being forced to be placed on the image.

Action was taken quickly that ultimately showed that the image was false due to the prominence of this figure. How about the other numerous people that have had their likeliness stolen from them without permission? Adding to the cycle of mis-information that is the internet.

Fake AI images of ‘Trump arrest’ hit internet

With all of the headline media covering trump's potential arrest due to various scandals. It is no wonder that a trump AI headline appeared on the internet displaying trump being arrested for what the masses presumed to be real upon circulation.

It was quickly debunked but by the same token, as we approach various election cycles around the world, could there be political undertones at play with AI generated content acting as a smear campaign to cripple your political opponents? Who do you trust if you cannot even trust what you see on the internet (this is a joke LOL)

Elon Musk and others urge AI pause, citing 'risks to society'

Over 30000 signatures have been signed online that agrees that the rapid pace of adoption of AI poses various degrees of risks to society due to lack of regulation.

The news headlines paints this as a major obstacle, but chances are AI will sweep aside the very few antagonistic forces and many speculate that people in control are in a secret arms race behind the scene. They suggest that various parties will continue development whilst slowing their rivals down with the intent of this petition to gain favor with public opinion.

How about government entities with no moral consciousness, or even Elon himself presenting his new startup TruthAI shortly after this petition?

As AI weaponry enters the arms race, America is feeling very, very afraid

Everyone had a chance to become an armchair general in 2022 and 2023 with the occurrence of the "special operation" between Russia and Ukraine.

Pitting global superpowers against each other (U.S. and China) has worries arise about the M.A.D. theory resurfacing, the SparkNotes version is that if world global superpowers go at it with nuclear weapons, the fourth world war will be fought with sticks and stones.

What if global superpowers opt for a different route to "fight" instead, AI can be weaponized and fought in a variety of ways that skirts past traditional conflicts involving humans, and we as normal citizens are powerless as observers watching it unfold as unlike traditional weapons, how do you deter weaponized AI?

Google shares drop $100 billion after its new AI chatbot makes a mistake

As the AI chatbot wars heat up, Google is sweating bullets, launching a not so complete ChatGPT competitor and embarrasses themselves when 'Bard' gave an incorrect output.

Google's search business is being disrupted drastically due to the rise of ChatGPT, with a literal fire being lit under their a$$.

Similarly, you can imagine how AI is disrupting other companies, without regulation or the time to error check through every detail, many more mistakes will be made in the early stages, but the rapid and wide adoption may cause underlying errors and biases to eventually be exposed, maybe when it's too late, we will learn?

Twitter taught Microsoft’s AI chatbot to be a racist asshole in less than a day

Everyone is reminded how much of a game changer Microsoft's ChatGPT is for modern society. Does anyone remember the failure that is TayAI, who got "corrupted" by twitter and was taken down a day after launch?

In a not so distant future (present day), suddenly ChatGPT is revolutionary and everyone wipes the slate clean to adopt it with open arms. Due to the ever shifting dynamic of AI, it is not unreasonable to see a future in which history repeats itself, what a stunning headline that will be, huh?
